The Birth of FlightOps

Built by Pilots, for Pilots

For years, Clarion Drone Academy students have been given access to tools that made them better pilots—resources that helped them prepare for flights, understand regulations, track their progress, and build professional habits from day one.

Now, for the first time, we’re making those tools available to everyone.

Whether you’re a seasoned commercial operator or someone who just bought their first drone and wants to learn to fly responsibly—FlightOps is for everyone.

The Problem We Kept Seeing

After training thousands of drone operators across Canada and internationally since 2014, we noticed something. The same questions came up again and again. The same mistakes kept happening.

Pilots would forget pre-flight checks. They’d spend hours searching through Transport Canada or FAA documents trying to find a straight answer. Flight logs would be incomplete or missing entirely. And when it came time to prove their experience or demonstrate compliance, they’d scramble to piece together records from scattered notebooks and apps.

We saw pilots—good pilots—getting tripped up not by flying, but by everything around flying. The paperwork. The regulations. The record-keeping. The mental preparation.

Building What We Wished We Had

At Clarion Drone Academy, we fly too. We’ve conducted operations across multiple countries. We’ve dealt with the same frustrations our students face.

So we built the app we wished existed.

FlightOps started as a simple idea: putting together all of the tools we use in a classroom in one place in your hands. We were building this for our own students, but realized there were a lot more pilots we could help. Everything a pilot needs before, during, and after a flight. Log flights quickly—by voice if your hands are busy. Run through checklists so nothing gets missed. Check the weather. Look up airspace restrictions. And when you have a regulatory question, get a real answer without digging through PDFs.

We added an AI assistant trained on official Transport Canada and FAA documents. Ask a question in plain English, get an answer with references. We integrated airspace data—including over 378,000 FAA zones for US pilots.

And we built IMSAFE+, a mental fitness check based on the standard aviation checklist. We’ve seen pilots make poor decisions because they were fatigued, stressed, or distracted. Small errors that could have been avoided with 60 seconds of honest self-assessment.

The Karolinska Sleepiness Scale isn’t something we invented—it’s used by NASA, aviation authorities, and fatigue researchers worldwide. We added drone-specific factors: mission complexity, environmental conditions, equipment status. The result is a quick check that gives you a clear Fit, Caution, or Postpone recommendation.

IMSAFE+ only takes 60 seconds, but what it really does is get pilots to pause and reflect on what’s happening in their lives and at work before they launch. That moment of honest self-assessment can make all the difference.

We made IMSAFE+ available on every tier—including free—because safety shouldn’t be a premium feature. If it helps one pilot make the right call to postpone a flight, it’s worth it.

For Every Pilot

FlightOps isn’t just for commercial operators. It’s for the student studying for their certification exam. It’s for the hobbyist who wants to fly responsibly. It’s for the public safety team that needs reliable records. It’s for the surveyor working in remote areas with no cell service—because FlightOps works offline.

We designed it to be useful from day one, whether you’re logging your first flight or your thousandth.

Why FlightOps

The name says it: flight operations. Not just logging. Not just weather. Not just regulations. Everything that goes into running safe, compliant, professional drone operations.

That’s what we teach at Clarion. That’s what FlightOps delivers.

Try It

FlightOps is available now at flightops.clariondrones.com. Give it five minutes. You’ll wonder how you flew without it.
